Simply put,

I love carrying around a camera, and trying to get people to look into the lens.

Freycinet National Park, Tasmania

Freycinet National Park is one of Tasmania’s most popular hiking and camping destinations.  Hikes range from lazy walks down to the beach, to multi-day treks.  We enjoyed a classic loop hike that provides a stunning view of Wineglass bay and follows the coast around the rest of the peninsula.

“Before we’d come to Tasmania, I’d seen pictures of Wineglass Bay – everyone has – with its pure white sand and a brilliant cerulean sea to rival any tropical island.  But you’ll notice it’s never shown with bikinied sunbakers, only with booted hikers lugging bulky backpacks.  Tasmania doesn’t offer up her beauty lightly.”  Freycinet by Melanie Calvert_DSC9510(below) The Hazard Mountains  “The sunlight slowly begins to leach away…The last of the sun’s light erupts from behind the Hazards like a halo, and its pink and orange streaks  lend their glow to the luminous, shadowy water.  In the midst of this spectacular performance, the mountains sit eternally, and wait.”  Freycinet by Melanie Calvert_DSC9565 Wineglass Bay’s beach is tucked in just behind the Hazard Mountains.  Perfect sand, turquoise water and not a piece of litter make this one of my favorite beaches in the world.  I’d love to sail a boat in here and drop anchor some day.  _DSC9536
